I have pretty severe dust and rag weed allergies and I have been getting shots for a year and have had no relief. I figured this would help so I got it in conjunction with another unit for my bedroom. 2 months later and it just does not work for me. I will give it 3 stars because nothing seems to work for me and the unit is well built and might work for someone else. Also my energy bill has jumped over $25 a month since using the air filters. I did not sign up for this. If it worked I would take the additional cost in stride. But running something that does not help and spending $300 a year to do so is not what I want to do with my money.

I was so impressed by this air purifier that I purchased 5 more units. I use one in my bedroom and another one inside my Rinker 342 Fiesta Vee Cabin Cruiser. I also sent one to my parents in Destin, Florida. My children use the other units in their bedrooms either at home or away at college. Everyone to whom I have given a unit absolutely loves it. The unit is easy to disassemble, clean and reassemble. The hepa filter is downwind from the prefilter and electrostatic filter, which are easy to clean and catch the vast majority of the dust. This setup markedly extends the life of the hepa filter which is affordable and should only have to be replace about once a year. Believe the 5 star rating. At around $200 or less this unit is an incredible value.

This is by far the best bang for the buck air purifier I researched and then purchased. It's sensitive so if you take your shoes and socks off close to this in "auto" you'll hear it shift into a faster speed/higher gear if you will. I made eggs with this off and took out the garbage and when I walked back in I could smell the eggs I just made. So I turned it on close to the kitchen and went to the car to get something and waited around a little, but when I came back there was no egg smell albeit it was on high but still this thing WORKS hard for you. 1. Customer Service with Amazon is A++++ The first purifier I received was scratched and scuffed so I emailed customer service and explained the condition it arrived and they automatically sent me a new one out which I received the next morning. Also they paid for the return shipping on the returned item. This is why I buy from Amazon!

2.The Surround Air XJ-3800 Intelli-Pro Air Purifier works really well. It picks up odors and works exactly as the description says. I have had two Oreck purifiers and had constant problems with their over priced air purifiers. I can't see me buying Oreck in the future as long as I can find one that works as well as the Surround Air XJ-3800 Intelli-Pro Air Purifier. I will post an update as to the durability after I have had it for a while. I highly recommend this product.

I bought my first unit last summer. I put it in my finished basement, and it worked very well. I bought 2 more units (and 1 for my mom!) recently. I don't have allergies, but I get a cough when the seasons change. Breathing/cough is better in my home. My boyfriend has allergies, and I have a cat. He breathes much better when these units are on. The only downside is a low level, white-noise hum when the unit is on low (louder on high). It doesn't bother me, and I can sleep through it. I LOVE the permanent filter! Don't have to waste 100s of dollars on filters. I would recommend this unit.

When the package arrived I opened it and discovered a spring rattling inside the unit. It had been the spring that released the filter, but fortunately it had no effect to its performance. The construction of the plastic was off as well and therefore pieces didn't line up correctly which left cracks and holes around the seams. I'm debating on returning it on the fact that it may fall apart at any given time down the road but on the other hand I suffer from allergies and I wouldn't be able to manage another week of coughing and not sleeping.

I have a spare bedroom that houses our pet rats and cats (yes, they co-habitate). Between the pet dander, cat litter dust and animal odor, the room gets a little unbearable at times. Within 24 hours of setting up the HFD-010, my sneezing/stuffiness was significantly reduced as was the pet odor. The second day, the air purifier started making the static "clicking" noise that some others have noticed. This is because the machine creates an electrostatic field around the HEPA filter to trap dust particles. I took the filter out of the machine and took it outside and gave it a gentle shake and when I re-installed it, the clicking was gone. I haven't found the official answer as to what causes this noise, but it appears to be when a piece of dust/debris gets stuck "just-so" in the filter chamber. The minor inconvenience of having to clear the filter when this happens does not outweigh the benefits of the clean air that the machine generates. From what I have read online, this is common to ANY filter that uses any type of electrostatic charge to trap particles.

I'm going to have to disagree with most here. Its unfortunate because I purchased based on the many good reviews.

The filter on this thing is VERY coarse and captures maybe nearby airborne pet hair but any more cleaning of the air and YOU will be disappointed.

How does HEPA - and the companies who design products that rely on their filters - stay in business, if not for us desperate allergy sufferers who need a cheap air purifier and fast? But the long-term (and by long-term, I mean 3-6 months) cost doesn't justify the moderate to minor help these HEPA-style purifiers provide. It seems like a good investment, doesn't it? Under $50 and all. But wait, in 3-6 months comes the time you need to replace that HEPA filter that's been meticulously designed to be unwashable, no matter how innovative you try to be in extending its life. That new filter you need will be around $25 (at least at all the stores near me - or get them cheaper online but pay shipping). So will the next one you'll need a few months after that. The larger, tower version of this model requires TWO filters. Easy math - up to $50 to refresh that machine.

The logical person quickly figures out it's cheaper to throw the machine away and buy a new one rather than replace those filters more than once or twice. What crap. Companies need to stop encouraging this "disposable" mentality. Stop manipulating consumers and forcing them to increase the mass of waste in landfills. Stop treating us like idiots, offering low-cost machines that require expensive parts that need to be constantly replaced. We all need to stop putting up with this.

OK, but how well does it work? I once had an electrostatic air purifier. (It was from a wonderful company called EnviroResearch, that sadly isn't around anymore. I got that model for around $80. Oreck has since apparently stolen or "adopted" the same design and now sells a very similar machine for $349! But the EnviroResearch one brought me almost immediate relief from my allergy symptoms. I use that as my comparison.) I can see the filters in this purifier are trapping a lot of particles and dust. Yet for some reason, I experience no alleviation of my symptoms when closed up in a room with one of these. No reduction in dust building up around the room it's in, either. Time to break out the HEPA-filtered vacuum for the 7th time this week. I am a clean person, so it's pretty easy for me to determine how quickly dust is accumulating and these filters don't seem to slow that one bit. They just, as one reviewer cleverly pointed out, seem like a placebo.

One other thing. They cause drafts. The air doesn't come out straight out the front, but at what seems to be 45-degree angles on either side of the front. So it makes it hard to position these units anywhere where you're not getting a direct line of air blowing on you. Nice in summer maybe, but not so nice in winter.

first off let me start out by saying that i've been using this 'purifier' in a 10x10 room for about 2 weeks now. i was looking for something that would help increase fresh air in the room while i partake in my 'herbal medicine' smoking. unfortunately, it didn't meet my standards. while it did, over time, decrease the odor of smoke somewhat, it was hard to really notice a difference unless i left the room and came back a half an hour or more later and by then the odor would have dissipated on its own anyways just as it did before i had purchased this product.

furthermore, even when there was no smoking going on in the room, when this thing was running with the door and window closed all day (which from what i've read in other reviews is apparently the only way it will work anyways) the room had a 'stuffy smell' when i entered it for the first time, again exactly as it would have before i even purchased this product. while i did notice *some* buildup on the filter after 2 weeks, indicating that at least a little bit of impurities were being filtered out of the air, it just wasn't enough to make any legit difference for me. this made me come to the conclusion that this thing is basically just an overpriced swanky looking small personal fan.

unfortunately i think most of the people reviewing this product are victims of the 'placebo effect'.. if you try hard enough to convince yourself that something is actually working, it's very easy to be misled. i have an extremely hard time believing that reviewers who state "i noticed an immediate difference!" actually experienced cleaner air. the product will be returned.

I've used this for about 6 months now and it does a decent job, with a noticeable change in the smell of the room (this is due to the ionizer i think). Hasn't eliminated dust buildup on surfaces but dust buildup has reduced as far as I can tell.

However, now it is time to change the filter and I'm considering just getting a different purifier. Right now, a 2 pack of filters for the HAP412 are going for about $31. Considering that's almost the cost of the purifier (with 1 filter included), I'd suggest trying a purifier with a reusable/washable filter.

It's quiet enough on the lowest setting and seems to do an OK job purifying but ultimately the filters are way too expensive.

I put this in my bedroom and its wonderful! You do have to clean about every week or so but its so worth it. For me, I know I have to clean it when it starts becoming 'noisy'. I cannot breathe at night without this thing plugged into the wall. This product is made for a closet but its perfect for a small closed in room. A must have. Would definitely purchase the larger one for the whole house.

I travel a lot and have two cats. My wife complained constantly of the smell even with the (various) odor absorbing cat litter(s) and electric autoscoop box. I can't say that odors are COMPLETELY gone but MUCH better especially when the box goes for some days without changing. The proof is my wife has stopped complaining. What could be more compelling? Would recommend for this application without question. Likely good for other odor problems as well but no direct experience. Low cost makes taking the plunge a pretty low risk.

I was surprised to see that a lot of people's reviews were based on putting this item near their litter boxes. The litter box is my exact same problem. We recently switched our cat's box to the pine litter, and it seems to retain the smells. Trying to avoid having to literally dump all the litter out once a week ($$), I looked for something that would stop the smell from wafting through my house.

I received my Ionic Pro Mini Air Purifier yesterday and plugged it in immediately. Within 20 minutes there was a noticeable difference. Fast forward to the next morning, the odor is gone!! In the past I've used just about every kind of air purifier that exists, and with varying costs and effectiveness, but this one just rocks my socks! It cleans everything, and I mean E.V.E.R.Y.T.H.I.N.G! Dust? Not anymore. Odors? Gone. Pollen? Not a single sneeze or watery eye. This truly is the best air purifier on the market hands down. Trust me, I've done the research not to mention have practical experience with other air purifiers. I definitely recommend this to everyone. My only complaint is with the shipping - the box was all bashed up, and it looked like it was taped by a monkey! The machine had several scuff marks and a black dust all over it and inside of it, but after cleaning it off and following the Manual instructions (of running it constantly for 8 hours and then unplugging it without turning it off so as to reset the sensors and make them more sensitive) everything worked perfectly. Not a single problem with the machine, and a persistent odor that I could never seem to get rid of was completely GONE in about 36 hours of running on high. My apartment has air vent registers in the floor of each room and for some reason dust and allergens come through it from my neighbors apartments but after putting in vent register filters and running this machine it's like living in a completely different apartment! (oh and I have a cat too, and there is no kitty litter/cat poopies smell at all)

I was expecting more from this. I'm a single father, and I'm not a fan of dusting. So I expected to see a little more in the filters, but not much at all. Others talk about how their unit senses odors and such, and they could see the lights changing as it did things, or as the auto setting would turn up the speed and such. I went so far as to get a fresh stinky doggie mine from my neighbor's yard, and held it right in front of the sensor, and even after several minutes, no change. I even cleaned the sensors as they suggest despite the fact that being brand new, it shouldn't have required it.

Had chicken one night, threw a few pieces my 6 year old didn't eat in the garbage, and the next day took the bag out of the can since every time the lid opened you could smell the old meat. Put THAT in front of the unit, also, no change in status, sensor, etc...

What I will say in the positive though, is that it really is unobtrusive (other than the size, it is much deeper than I had thought, guess I didn't pay attention to the dimensions, which is why I posted the extra pictures so you can see the actual size), and the fan is relatively quiet except on high, and even then it's not annoying, just noticeable. And it does take care of odors pretty well even if it doesn't seem to be sensing anything. I vacuum frequently (hard not to with a 6 year old around) and other than dusting, keep the house pretty clean, but there's sometimes a damp smell from the laundry room you notice when you first walk into it from the garage. This took care of that, as well as just a general "dog used to live here" smell in the great room. I had no ozoneish smell, nothing to tell that it was doing anything other than filtering, but even if I'm not seeing any signs of particulate matter in the filters, at least it is making the air smell fresher.

Only problem was packaging was not good, unit bounced around and the box was damaged in shipping, and I have some marks on the unit that made me wonder if it was used... Still not sure if I'll keep it or return it and try something else, but it at least does help make rooms smell cleaner.

I noticed quite a bit of dust in the air in my bedroom which is fairly large so I researched air purifiers and purchased this one. It has taken the dust out of the air and seems to do what it is supposed to do at a reasonable price. I leave it on 24 hours a day in the automatic setting and it works fine and is fairly quiet. It also will let you know when the filters need to be cleaned or replaced, no guessing. I am very happy with this product and recommend it.

It's bigger than it looks in the pictures: Stands about thigh-high. This put me off at first...but then I plugged it in.

First impression: It's not doing anything.

After two days: I want to have it's babies.

I have allergies...miserable miserable allergies, and I just moved back to maryland during the worst allergy season I've seen in years.

To a house with three smokers. And Two Dogs. And Two Cats. This house has clutter (re: dust) and mold and four plants in the livingroom and old carpets. It has old furniture and crummy filters but it DOES have ceiling fans!

This house is allergy hell.

and this purifier?...Ah...I swear I can breathe again. It cleans up the air (auto setting rocks!) of the entire 500 sq/ft first floor from *awful* to *clear* in roughly 20 minutes, and if it's running constantly, it never gets intolerable. In fact, it barely ever gets to worse than "do you smell something?" for more than a minute or two, even if there has been cooking and smoking and the dogs were in the rain.

Even if it only lasted 6 months before it totally broke down, it would be worth the price to pay every six months to get another one.

I am in love.

I've had MANY different air purifiers in the last 25 years and this, by far is the best on the market. I keep it on low. When my kitties use their litter box (in another room) it goes on high for several seconds then goes back to low; I laugh everytime I hear it. No more dust particles floating in the air either! I also bought a smaller one for my bedroom and and love it as well. I will never go back to any of the other brands and plan on buying a third one for another part of my home. LOVE IT, LOVE IT, LOVE IT!!!

After adopting two cats recently I developed breathing problems due to the dander produced by the cats. My breathing was affected enough that I was prescribed an inhaler.

So I bought two of these units about a month ago and voila!, no more breathing problem! One is in the living room, the other the bedroom. I keep them both on when I vacuum to catch anything that gets kicked up by the vacuum's rollers. I vacuum about 3 days a week but when I checked the filters the other day I was pleasantly surprised to see that its catching "stuff". So wearing a cleaning mask, I took the filters outside and using a brush, brushed them clean. I love how easy it is to pop out the filters to clean...so, so easy.

As for the noise, the sounds were more noticeable in the beginning but after a month, either I've gotten used to the white noise it creates or it got a bit quieter with constant use...I imagine its a bit of both. It now sounds like a small fan set on low -- not obtrusive at all.

Admittedly, these compact units are a bit small for the rooms I have but they're doing a great job for me.

A definite thumbs up from me.

Working great thus far. We bought this product to address, at least in part, our granddaughter's allergy and snoring problems. We were suprised that within a week of using this machine, we noticed a huge reduction in her snoring!

I did take the filters out, just to test how easy it would be to clean, and it was a breeze.

I'm waiting and hoping that 6 mos. from now this product will continue to work as well as it does. Presently, I'm thoroughly pleased.

It works well. Sun rays no longer show floating dust in my bedroom (13' x 15' ). If that's the space you plan to use this in, I can say it at least removes dust from the air for that space.

I bought this for my son's bedroom, as a HEPA or similar air purifier was suggested by the allergist. It is rather quiet and moves the air really well. It almost feels as if there's a fan on in the room as it cools it off a tiny bit.

I haven't tried to clean it yet, but I am about to. Set up and cleaning instructions are very clear and laid out well. All in all a very good product for the price!!
